Hebe Breviracemosa

An erect growing, evergreen shrub, which reach 40 in (1 m) or more tall. The leaves are spear shaped, and are light green. The flowers are lilac, fading to white. This very rare hebe is rather similar in appearance to the well-known Hebe salicifolia.

Hebe breviracemosa is an erect growing, evergreen shrub, which can reach 40 in (1 m) or more tall. The leaves are light green, spear shaped, 3–4 in (70–100 mm) long, and about 1 in (25 mm) wide. The flowers are lilac, fading to white, July to December. A tender hebe only suitable for coastal UK gardens.

This hebe comes from the Kermadec Islands, to the north of New Zealand. Hebe breviracemosa was first found in 1908, when it was being eaten by goats, and it was feared that it would soon be extinct. However in 1984 it was rediscovered, and brought into cultivation.
